Indonesia and Thailand Strengthen Educational Cooperation for Students and Teachers
SINGAPORE — Indonesia’s Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (MoPSE) has agreed to renew its educational partnership with the Royal Thai Government. The initiative aims to expand learning opportunities for students and teachers while deepening people-to-people ties between the two nations.
The agreement was reached during a bilateral meeting between Indonesia’s Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu’ti, and Thailand’s Minister of Education, Prasert Jantararuangtong. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 14th ASEAN Education Ministers Meeting (ASED) at the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore on Wednesday, July 22.
Under the agreement, Indonesian students and teachers will gain access to several strategic initiatives, including exchange programs, Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology training, and academic publication exchanges. Additionally, the Indonesian government is offering its flagship Darmasiswa scholarship program to further strengthen educational diplomacy between Jakarta and Bangkok.
Minister Abdul Mu’ti explained that renewing the agreement, which had previously expired, focuses on delivering direct benefits to educators and students, particularly in enhancing global perspectives and digital skills. The formal signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is scheduled for August 2026 during the Thai Education Minister's visit to Indonesia.
"We met with the Thai Minister of Education to discuss renewing our bilateral cooperation, which had expired even though joint programs remained active," Mu'ti said. "We agreed to sign the agreement next month to strengthen teacher and student exchanges, as well as joint initiatives on AI learning and training."
Thai Minister of Education Prasert Jantararuangtong welcomed the partnership, which spans multiple educational levels, including early childhood, primary, secondary, and vocational education. He highlighted that the collaboration will directly improve educational quality and foster student potential.
"We believe this MoU is a crucial step forward," Prasert Jantararuangtong said. "It allows us to exchange academic knowledge across all educational levels up to vocational training, while also advancing qualification recognition, research, and joint scholarship provisions with our ASEAN neighbor, Indonesia."
Through this synergy, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education reaffirms its commitment to providing modern, relevant learning experiences, broadening growth opportunities for teachers and students, and ensuring the tangible benefits of educational diplomacy reach the broader public.
